What is a mass lobby? A mass lobby is when lots of people meet with their MPs on the same day to have powerful conversations on issues they care about.
What is this mass lobby about? On Wednesday 9 July, thousands of people from every corner of the UK will come to Westminster to tell our MPs: this is a moment for leadership that protects what matters most — our health, our nature, our communities, our climate, and our future.
Here is how we want people of faith to contribute:
Register to meet your MP – The Climate Coalition needs to know you’re coming so that they can keep you up to date with everything you’ll need to know.
Connect with others, especially people of all faiths, on the day
- Come and chat to us at the Faith for the Climate stall – kindly secured by our friends at Islamic Relief UK – in the Faith Pavilion on the 5th floor of the Queen Elizabeth II centre. We’ll have badges, leaflets and other resources that you can take away. There will be volunteers from across our network supervising the stall throughout the day. Feel free to check in before your meeting with your MP or debrief with us afterwards. We’ll also host a fun prayer and reflection activity you can be part of.
- Drop in to our multifaith prayer and wellbeing space whenever you need quiet reflection and prayer (we’ll update the exact location when the details are confirmed).
- Visit the exhibition space on the 6th floor – more details about faith-based exhibitions here soon
- Also on the 6th floor, join the interfaith panel discussion chaired by our chair and co-founder, Canon Giles Goddard, at 2:00pm – confirmed speakers to be announced soon.
- Join faith-based actions throughout the day
- Christian Climate Action will be holding their regular vigil outside Parliament from 11am – 3pm
- Quaker Support for Climate Action will be holding an open Meeting for Worship – people will gather in front of the Milicent Fawcett statue at 12.00 and then move somewhere nearby for worship (location to be agreed on the day)
- Talk to your MP about faith priorities for climate action. Faith for the Climate has a series of key priorities for the UK Government on climate justice, which are listed below. You can support faith work for climate action by bringing these priorities up with your MP and asking for their support.

In July 2024, the Labour Party was elected with a manifesto outlining bold commitments to clean energy, transforming our economy and acting as a global leader on climate. Faith for the Climate seeks to hold them to these promises in 2025.
Lead a fast and fair phase-out of fossil fuels
- endorse the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty.
- ban new oil and gas exploration or development in the UK.
- end tax breaks for oil and gas extraction.
- redirect subsidies for oil and gas towards financing a just transition to a sustainable economy.
Make polluters pay for the climate crisis
- Introduce a combination of wealth and fossil fuel targeted taxes.
- Use the extra revenues to help deliver the UK’s contributions to supporting climate-vulnerable countries.
Hold greedy lenders to account
- Introduce new laws that force private lenders to cancel or negotiate the debt of low-income countries.
Ahead of the lobby day, faith groups have also written a letter asking the government to use fairer taxes to pay for climate justice. If you’d like to support this, you can find the letter here and could bring it up with your MP.
What do you think?
You might have your own faith connection to the need for a fair tax system, or you might want to reflect on those affected by climate breakdown around the world. Before meeting your MP, take some time to reflect on the ideas for how we could respond to climate breakdown, and think about which ones you’re most passionate about.
You could also think about why you’re passionate about these ideas. MPs are bombarded with facts and figures, but they often find a personal story from a constituent the most persuasive. Don’t be afraid to speak about your faith or your own experiences when explaining why you want them to support climate action.
