On Saturday, 20 September 2025, members and friends of Faith for the Climate joined an estimated 10,000 people who marched with Make Them Pay, an alliance representing millions of workers, citizens and communities across Britain. Our demands were simple: tax the super-rich, protect workers not billionaires, and make polluters pay.
Why? According to Oxfam, in 2024, global billionaire wealth grew by $2 trillion. UK billionaires amassed a further £35 million a day. Yet a growing number of people in Britain are feeling the brunt of increased pressure on our public services, like the NHS and schools, and the rise of climate disasters within this country and globally. Billionaires have basically broken Britain by dodging taxes, investing in polluting industries, and undermining protections for working people and communities.
Faith for the Climate co-hosted an interfaith vigil with Quakers in Britain, with speakers of different faiths sharing their reflections: Joe Mishan from XR Buddhists, Andrea Speranza from CAFOD, Nadia Minhas from Muslim Charities Forum, Melanie Nazareth from Christian Climate Action/Green Christian, and Maria Faundez from Brahma Kumaris UK.
At the end of the rally, Christian Climate Action’s Revd Helen Burnett took to the stage and exhorted participants to remember that in his time, Jesus was a protector of the poor, speaking out against those in power who sought to exploit the marginalised. She called out CEOs of fossil fuel companies for their callous profit motives and climate-destroying actions, and reminded all of us that we are a movement that can change history. “Change is not coming from the top,” she told the crowd. “Today, empire is not interested in people anymore than in the time of Jesus. Change will come from the grassroots, from those who will not turn a blind eye to the suffering of their neighbour.”
Thank you to everyone who turned up in person or in spirit – a testament to the bonds of faith and justice that we share across our diverse network for the love of people and planet. Enjoy our photos! All pics courtesy of Faith for the Climate, unless otherwise stated.
