A Call to Action: Uniting our members for the Climate and Nature Bill
By Zero Hour
Back in February, when the date of the next general election was still unknown, Jamie Russell from Zero Hour (the campaign supporting the Climate and Nature Bill in Parliament) wrote a special blog post for Faith for the Climate about their new campaign.
Now that the election has been declared, let’s ramp up our commitments and remind our politicians how much people, nature and climate change matter to the public.
Read on for Zero Hour’s latest call to action for faith communities.
Dear members of Faith for the Climate,
With the general election now announced for 4 July, we have a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the future of climate policy in this country.
The Climate and Nature Bill, a people-centred, science-led framework for emissions reductions and nature restoration, is at the forefront of our efforts.
Our goal is to engage political candidates about the Climate and Nature (CAN) Bill ahead of the election, ensuring that we convey the message of this proposed legislation across the country.
To do this we need as many individuals and organisations as possible to show their support for the Bill and let their candidates know that this issue matters to them.
We are reaching out to faith groups because we know they hold amazing potential to bring people together across political orientations. We believe in the strength that comes from diverse groups of people coming together for a common purpose: a healthier, fairer, safer planet for all.
What are we asking you to do?
We are asking everyone to sign up as a supporter of the CAN Bill on our website and, if you are a member of an organisation to ask that organisation to sign up too.
We know that candidates listen carefully to the voices in their constituency during the election campaign so this is the time to maximise our power as constituents!
We are also looking for individuals and faith groups who are ready to join forces with Zero Hour campaigners to organise joint activities locally in the run up to the election. We can help you set up climate and nature hustings; organise informal chats with your candidates about the CAN Bill; or host our travelling exhibition Letters From The Global South in your community.
