Ahead of COP29, with a new government in place, people of faith across the UK will gather to mark the loss and destruction caused by climate breakdown.

Climate Change, Conflict and Faith-inspired Action

We held this meeting as part of the Global Week of Action for Peace and Climate Justice.
We discussed how people of faith around the world are protecting their local ecosystems, and healing the wounds of conflict, by undertaking interfaith climate actions. There was a Q and A with people involved in inspiring local projects in the majority world, as well as learning about how faith communities in the UK could support and promote this work.

Catch Canon Giles Goddard and Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg had a conversation about their recent books, chaired by Julie Siddiqi.
Jonathan and Giles addressed their different spiritual journeys, their struggles with spiritual leadership in a dangerous world, and how they try to live out the demands of justice and compassion as we face the climate and other crises.
Interfaith picnic for the Great Big Green Week, Sunday 9 June, 1-4pm
On Sunday, 9 June, at St John’s in Waterloo, London, we kicked off the Great Big Green Week. It featured face-painting, a treasure hunt, recycling rounders, a butterfly puzzle, clothes & toy swap stalls, music, dance, a photo exhibition, and more. Plant-based picnics were also brought to share.

Restore Nature Now: Faith-related Events
We joined the Restore Nature Now march on Saturday, 22 June, from 12 noon. We were at the faith-related events happening prior to the march from the Christian and Buddhist members in our network.

Faith For the Climate April Network Meeting

As world leaders gathered for the UN’s climate negotiations at COP28, a climate summit presided over by an oil executive, we came together on 9 December to demand climate justice.

Interfaith prayers and meditations for climate justice

In the leadup to the UN climate talks, COP28, in the United Arab Emirates, we held an interfaith vigil at the Clive of India Memorial, corner of King Charles Street and Horse Guards Road, SW1A 2AH, asking the UK to honour its global commitments to climate justice. With winter coming and the cost-of-living crisis and other climate change-driven injustices continuing to affect so many people, we supported ongoing GoDharmic’s food distribution in London at Agar Street outside the Zimbabwe Embassy, Zimbabwe House.

As part of Great Big Green Week, we supported Christian Aid and Islamic Relief UK and their interfaith stall on Lower Marsh, in front of IR-UK’s office, to tell people about loss and damage.
